NSS-Celebration of Independence day at Chandapur
United we stand! - 15th August, 2008
Unity in diversity has made India a very sought after nation. NSS team from St.Mary's took the initiative to adopt a poor village and work towards the development of the same. No other date could have been a better date than the day of the nation's 62nd independence, for the commencement of this noble work. Students of St. Mary's accompanied by the faculty members of NSS visited Chandapur as a part of the NSS activity.

It was a matter of pride to witness the National Flag of independent India being hoisted for the 62nd free year. With lots of partriotic fervour and enthusiasm, the students of the village participated in the cultrual celebrations of the Indepence Day, on 15th August, 2008. Spectacular cultural shows-singing and dancing, mimicry and games were organized.

Gold medals were given to the winners of various competitions and sweets were given to all. The headmaster and the teachers of the school addressed the gathering. Mr. K.T Srinivas also gave the words of wisdom to the people present. As a part of serving the villagers,  4 ceiling fans and tubelights were donated to the school. The meet was educative and entertaining, with a purpose.

After the hoisting of the flag,  the students went around the village enjoying the nature at its best. Enthralled by this visit, the students unwound in the green fields and rode bicycles, which has become almost extinct in the cities. This visit to the village was an eye-opener for the students and the visitors.
