ANNUAL REPORT FOR THE ACADEMIC YEAR OF 2008-09
A Report - Principal - Dr. Rabbi Puthiran
It is indeed gratifying to present the report for the academic year of 2008-09 which chronicles programmes and events concerning the college mainly this academic year and which in course of time will be an important archive. The staff and students were sufficiently motivated to make the best of this period, a period in which there was  positive change as if in deference to what Bertrand Russell said: ‘Man needs for his happiness, hope and enterprise and change.’

The academic year was very positive and progressive in terms of changes, developments and achievements mainly because of my colleagues and their enthusiastic collaboration. The academic year started with the orientation programme for the teachers emphasizing on  all the aspects to become multi-faceted personality. It was followed by the orientation for the intermediate and Degree students along with their parents, in the month of June 2008.

This academic year will be marked in the history of St. Mary’s College and will be written in golden letters, as the countdown for the NAAC Accreditation began on 22nd June, 2009. The college welcomed the NAAC peer team for a three day visit from 22nd June to 24th June 2008. Following which the college was NAAC Accredited and ISO: 9001:2000 Certified by DNV (Netherlands) in the academic year, 2008-09. The Surveillance audit was successfully completed in the month of November 2008.

The International Conference on energy security organized in the college, left an indelible impression on the delegates from different countries who participated in discussion and deliberations in the month of December 2008.

The involvement of the students and staff with the community in general has become a ritual over the period of 2 years. This year was no exception and community services were organized on 1st August, 2008. The students accompanied by their lecturers visited  the orphanages, old homes, blind and deaf centers.

During this academic year students participated in various workshops, seminars and conferences. Students from the Department of Science presented the papers in the conferences.

A precedence set in the year 2007 was followed this year also where every department is encouraged to observe two international days to recognize the importance of the days.

At the cultural level the inter-collegiate fest, PRERNA, facilitated more than 54 colleges in the city, thus showcasing the organizational capabilities of the students of the college which resulted in producing more than 50 ( fifty)  budding event managers.

In Sports our students excelled in Basket ball and table tennis to become winners at Osmania university level. Students participated in various cultural competitions  and excelled in the events and brought laurels to the institution. In Academics students excelled in the annual examinations and some of them obtained their post graduate admissions in UK, USA and AUSTRALIA.

Volume II of the Annual Journal of Women Development Cell was released in the academic year

The sanction of the  NSS Unit in the academic year 2008 was another feather in the cap of St. Mary’s. Chandapur, a village was adopted by the NSS Unit, for the social service and regular camps. During the academic year 2008 B.Com Advertising was also introduced as a part of the regular curriculum.

A Carol Singing competition was organized as a part of the Christmas Celebration in the campus. Many professional & educational institutions were represented for the competition. What predominantly a pictorial account speaks about our staff who tried to be constant to purpose and our students whose multiple intelligences were given ample opportunity to take wing.

The efforts bore fruit in many spheres because a spirit of good will pervaded the institution. Celebrities, educationalists and well wishers who graced the  Institution with their presence shared our concern for quality education, equity, peace and justice.

I take this opportunity to thank our Chairman for continuous guidance and encouragement which has facilitated tremendous personal, professional and the institutional growth. I am indeed grateful to him. The over whelming co-operation and support given by Director Mr.Mahender Reddy has always been a source of encouragement to me and my colleagues and has made all the difference.

The parents associated with the institution have always been the pillars of strength. The ever-supportive teaching, non teaching and administrative staff has been the backbone of the institution and has contributed to its unstinted growth.

Last but not the least, the boisterous students'  bubbling enthusiasm keep us always on our toes and encourages us to organize and conduct creative and innovative events in the institution.

Finall,  it is Almighty God who bestowed his blessings on us constantly in all our ventures. With HIM we are everything and we truly give HIM the glory.
